SS/Relay Gini’ot displays tremendous defense in win

By Kyle Terwilliger
Variety News Staff

THE night began with a bang as the Guam Masters met the Tenjo Thunder in GPWA action Monday night at the Tamuning gym.
The game was close in the first half but the Guam Masters had a run in the second half led by the 15 points of Dave Camacho and the 10 points of Pete Chamberlain. With that surge the Guam Masters would be able to topple the Tenjo Thunder winning 50 – 33.
The Thunder would be led by Jimmy Pangelinan and Tommy Tyquiengco who had eight and seven points respectively in the Thunder loss. In the second game of the night the SS/Relay Gini’ot would take on the GWA. The Gini’ot would prove that defense really does win games by completely shutting down the GWA in the first half going into half time with the score 28 – 5.
The GWA and Gack Sanchez would mount a comeback in the second half with Sanchez scoring 15 points. However, that would not be enough to beat John Santos’ 21 points as the Gini’ot defeated the GWA 56 – 39.
The Gini’ot would also see 19 points added by Brandon Umpingco in the win. And in the last game of the night the Engineering team would go up against the Underground Dawgs. The Engineers would be led by Marvin Poliarco who coming off a thirty point game would score 21 in the Engineers 57 – 33 victory. Danny Ollet would add 12 points for the Engineers.
The Underground Dawgs would be led by Frank Borja with 26 of the teams 33 points. Ed Sinato and Vince Pangelinan would add the other seven points in the Dawgs loss.
Next games will be on Wednesday night at the Tamuning gym. Stats were provided by league coordinator Joe Kinata.
