WATCH & Learn is threatening to dethrone the Mwaliyas after winning Game 1 of their best-of-five title series in the World Organized Rocball Community League and taking the lead in Game 2 yesterday at the Marianas High School Gym.
Game 1 started last Monday with Watch & Learn and Mwaliyas playing only the first three sets of the match and the former leading at 46-38.
The opening set was and neck-and-neck fight with Watch & Learn prevailing only by a point, 15-14.
Watch & Learn had an easier time in the second set notching a 15-6 triumph.
Before the match was halted and students returned to their class, Mwaliyas claimed their first victory, topping the third set, 18-16.
Down by eight going into the fourth set yesterday, Mwaliyas needed to win the last regular set to force an o-kon.
But Watch & Learn ended Game 1 early with a 15-10 win in the fourth set.
Mark McDonald led Watch & Learn’s Game 1 triumph hitting 20 points on 10 kees.
Shane Yamada scored 13 points for the Mwaliyas drilling three goal and two kees.
The first two sets of Game 2 were also played yesterday with Watch & Learn and the Mwaliyas splitting the two sets.
Watch & Learn picked up where it left off taking the first set of Game 1, 15-3.
The defending champions recovered winning the second set, 16-8.
After two sets, Watch & Learn is hanging on to a 23-19 lead. The match resumes today and a Watch & Learn victory will move them a win away from clinching the title.
The Mwaliyas are hoping to tie the series.
McDonald was leading Watch & Learn anew in Game 2 as he has earned eight points on three kees and an ace.
Watch & Learn and the Mwaliyas advanced to the championship showdown after beating the Dublon Chiefs and Da Lani Kynez, respectively, in the semis.
Ten teams played in this year’s rocball tournament. The six other teams that were eliminated earlier were Black Magic, Kich Fairo, Ballers, Bwi Bwiis, 670’s Finest and the Caropinos.
