Hopwood, MHS, Kagman bets battling for slots in McDonald’s All School track meet

NORTHERN Marianas Athletics has released other results of the junior high and high school trials for the 2007 McDonald’s All Schools Track and Field Championship while it continues to conduct the qualifiers for elementary student-athletes this week at the Oleai Sports Complex track and field facility.
Hopwood High and Kagman High School dominated the sprint races with Yvonne Bennett and Jesus Iguel leading the former and Reylynn Sapong and JR Concepcion pacing the former.
In other results, Saipan Community School’s Ardel Tumbaga timed in at seven minutes 06.46 minutes to top the junior high trial for the boys’ 1500m race.
In the junior high girls and boys’ long jump, Grace Christian Academy’s Lia Rangamar posted 3.69 to beat eight other students, while Concepcion recorded 13.33 to prevail over three other participants.
The series of trials are being held to select student-athletes that will compete in the All Schools trackfest on May 12. Only the top six in each event will advance to the tournament next month.
In the high school trials, MHS’s Melody Ludwig won the girls’ 1500m race with a time of 5:58.74 beating teammates Gresil Race (7:25.41) and Arisha Nishimura (7:34.98).
Nate Mateo, also from MHS, placed first in the boys’ 1500m run after clocking 5:04.69, followed by Kagman’s Chris Santos, teammate Matt Mancao, Kagman’s Allen Moses, MHS’s Heartim Williams and Ken Yoshimoto, Kagman’s Mychal Omar and MHS’s Alfred Kileleman.
The Lady Dolphins’ Jacque Wonenberg prevailed in the long jump with her 4.35, followed by Hopwood’s Wang Yue and teammate Maria Conui.
Iguel topped the boys’ long jump beating 15 other participants, while MHS’s Lei Rangamar ruled the girls’ discus throw.
Saipan Southern High’s Eva Ito posted 7.43m to place first in the girls’ shot put, wile Kagman High’s Jordan Tagabuel dominated the boys’ division.
Trials for high school and junior high students will resume tomorrow, while NMA will continue with the trials for elementary students today.
Scheduled to join today’s trials for elementary division are student-athletes of Garapan, Oleai, GCA, Whispering Palms and Saipan International School.
