G-Stars diffuse Explosives; G-Rollers win in opener

THE Kagman Explosives were not that explosive at all in their debut in the NYBA 16-and-under Basketball League, as they suffered a big loss to the G-Stars in the 16-and-under division game last Monday at the Garapan basketball court.
The G-Stars routed the Explosives, 100-47 with the former getting double figures from their five players.
Jericho Cruz led all scorers with 23 points, while Guy Mosley had an easy time in the paint firing 19 markers. Noelle Calvo added 12 points, while Steve Tellei and Nate Mateo contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The G-Stars controlled the game from start to finish and never gave the Explosives a chance to lead in the match.
The Explosives were lacking in spark in the first period, as they scored only eight points to face an 8-23 deficit, entering the second period.
The Ben Leon Guerrero-mentored team continued to struggle offensive in the second quarter scoring only six points, as the G-Stars took a 42-14 halftime lead.
With the G-Stars getting contributions from every player they fielded in the game in the second half, there was no way the Explosives could recover and pull off an upset.
Only Mailuu Pomee scored in double figures for the Explosives with his 10 points.
In the co-ed-12-and-under division game, which opened the hostilities in the 16-and-under caging, the G-Rollers slipped past the Explosives, 30-25.
Anthony Bornilla gaved his G-Rollers a good debut scoring 10 points. Jacob Palacios and Kevin Hidalgo chipped in eight and six markers, respectively.
Action in the NYBA caging resumes tonight with Chacha meeting the Explosives in the girls’ 16-and-under division at 5 p.m. and the G-Rollers 1 and 2 battling in the boys’ 14-and-under at 6:30 p.m. The last game will have 16-and-under game featuring the Sonics and the Celtics at 8 p.m.
