A PRELIMINARY hearing was
set for a man arrested for distribution of a controlled substance
ice.
Kuo Chung Wei, 41, also known as John Wei, will return to court on April
26 at 10 a.m.
He was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after the
hearing on Tuesday morning.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig Moore moved that Wei be held without bail
which U.S. District Court for NMI Chief Judge Alex Munson granted without
prejudice.
The court will appoint a lawyer for Wei as it was determined that he is
an indigent.
The complaint filed in court charged Wei with two counts of distribution
of a controlled substance.
The complaint stated that Wei on April 5 and 6 distributed a controlled
substance, approximately 6 grams of methamphetamine in a form commonly
known as ice.
During the buy-bust operation conducted on April 5, Wei sold $350 worth
of ice to a confidential source in front of the Sister Remedio
School in Chalan Kanoa.
On April 6, Wei and the confidential source met again at the same place
for another drug transaction.
Wei was arrested later after his vehicle was stopped by police for failing
to signal while switching lanes in Chalan Kanoa.
Authorities searched him and recovered the buy-bust money.
