Father Duenas Friars down Southern High Dolphins in three sets

By Kyle Terwilliger
Variety News Staff

AFTER a shaky start on their home floor on Tuesday evening the Father Duenas Friars fought back to take the victory from the Southern High Dolphins in an IIAAG Boy’s Volleyball match-up.
The Dolphins would come out strong Tuesday evening taking the first set away from the Friars 15-25 behind the play of Phillip Matanane. However the Friars’ three headed monster of Sang Woo Choi, Franklin Fegurgur, and Royce Flores would take the second set relatively easily winning 25-14 to send the game into a third set.
The third set would be a close one but with the score 10-10 the Friars would run away with the victory led by their overall athletic ability to win the third set 15-11 and take the game over the Dolphins.
In other games the George Washington Geckos would defeat the Guam High Panthers in straight sets winning 25-19 and 25-13 to take their season opener. The Panthers’ attack would be led by Niko Bolivar but they could not match up against a Geckos defense that was just too strong.
The Geckos led by Charles Macias move to 1-0 as the Panthers fall to 1-2 on the season. The John F. Kennedy Islanders defeated the Harvest Christian Academy Eagles in three sets Tuesday night. And the St. Paul Christian Warriors would defeat the St. John’s Warriors to move to 2-1.
