THE Coastal Resource Management
Office on Wednesday sent staffers to inspect how the Saipan Nikko Hotel
was trimming the ironwood trees in the area.
CRMOs permit manager Manases Manglona and enforcement staffer John
Delos Reyes went to the area on two separate occasions after receiving
calls that ironwood trees behind the hotel were being cut.
Delos Reyes declined to be interviewed.
Saipan Nikko Hotel administrative officer Ray Dela Cruz said some of their
workers made mistakes in trimming the trees.
He said branches of nine trees were cut off when they were only supposed
to be trimmed.
He added that they have already taken disciplinary action against personnel
who mishandled the job.
The hotel management, Dela Cruz said, wanted the trees trimmed so they
would not be toppled during a typhoon.
He said they informed CRMO before they started the job last month.
They know exactly how it is done since they havethan it in the past with
permission from CRMO, Dela Cruz said.
It is only this time that mistakes were made, and we immediately
admitted the mistakes of our worker when CRMO came to check it,
he said.
He said he does not know what action CRMO might take against them.
