ONE of the suspects in a series of burglaries and drug deals arrested last week in Dededo will be in federal court today to face drug charges filed against him by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Raymond Ignacio Duenas Jr. is charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine in the District Court of Guam.
Duenas, 33, and his wife Lourdes Duenas, 40, were arrested Thursday and had been earlier charged with multiple felony counts of theft by receiving stolen property and drug possession before the Superior Court of Guam.
In a complaint filed by Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Michelle M. Jong, a search warrant was executed at the residence of the Duenas couple located on Y-Sengsong Road in Dededo.
During the search, DEA agents and members of the Guam Police Department discovered a digital safe that contained numerous items of jewelry and a nylon pouch with a Ziploc plastic bag.
The Ziploc bag had a white crystal-like substance in it identified as methamphetamine.
GPD officer Jason Aguon advised Jong that the gross weight of the methamphetamine in the plastic bag was approximately 76 grams.
GPD also discovered electronic scales and many plastic bags believed to have been used in the trafficking of controlled substances.
The Duenas couple was living in a makeshift house consisting of a wooden structure with a tin roof and an extension consisting of a tent which was part of their living quarters.
The couple slept in the tent, which had a bed, shelving, a television, and a quantity of miscellaneous clothing and several items believed to be stolen.
Duenas has two prior convictions in the local court. On Dec. 29, 2000, he was convicted of possession of a schedule II controlled substance, terrorizing, and possession of a firearm without an identification card. On March 29, 2001, he was convicted for theft as a third-degree felony.
They were arrested on Thursday after an informant told police of the existence of several stolen items in the Duenas residence.
During the raid, burglary victims, including GPD officer Felix Camacho and Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Barrett-Anderson, found items that had been stolen by burglars from their respective residences.
Camacho recovered his 50-inch plasma television stolen from him on March 28, 2007 while Judge Barrett-Anderson recovered 11 pieces of jewelries which were stolen from her residence on April 3, 2007.
The Duenas couple is being questioned which could lead to more arrests, while GPD is encouraging burglary victims to coordinate with authorities for the possible recovery of their stolen items.
