GUAM residents joined environmentalists
on Saturday at the Island Pride Festival at Ypao Beach Park in Tamuning,
highlighting the celebration of Earth Week 2007.
The whole-day event featured interactive booths educating residents on
environmental protection, cultural entertainment, food, and art contests,
including the Earth Week 2007 3-D artwork which will remain on display
at the Guam Premier until April 30.
Earth Week is an important time for our community to reflect on
how we can protect our environment, said Lorelie Crisostomo, Guam
Environmental Protection Agency administrator.
This years celebration is focused on protecting Guams watersheds
from pollution, erosion and other hazards.
GEPA encourages the public to Protect Guams Watersheds
by reporting fires and arson. Grass fires lead to erosion when heavy rains
wash muddy water into a bay and smother the coral reefs, the agency said.
On Friday, Gov. Felix P. Camacho urged Guam residents to actively engage
in the preservation and conservation of natural resources as part of their
daily routine.
