GOVERNOR Felix P. Camacho declared April 21 as “Earth Day 2007,” encouraging all Guam residents to actively engage in the preservation and conservation of natural resources as part of their daily routine.
“Guam is facing unprecedented growth and development opportunities and it is critical we work together to ensure that we keep our environment healthy. The health of our island and our future depends greatly on our actions today and we must teach our children to protect the resources we depend on,” Camacho said in a statement.
This year’s theme is “Protect Guam’s Watersheds,” and focuses on educating the public about protecting local water resources from pollution, erosion and other harmful substances.
Camacho has asked all residents to become stewards of the environment by protecting all natural resources.
A proclamation signing ceremony was held at Adelup to declare April 21 as Earth Day 2007, in conjunction with the 4th annual Island Pride Festival.
Government agencies, community organizations and students from throughout the island joined together for Earth Day 2007 activities at Ypao Beach Park in Tumon over the weekend.
