A WESTERN Association of Schools
and Colleges, or WASC, team will visit Southern High School today through
Wednesday, according to the Guam Public School System.
Some GPSS officials are confident that Southern High School will get a
good grade, just like John F. Kennedy High School.
Others, though, are unsure because the conditions of the southern campus
are being addressed, including the schools air-conditioning units
which have been down for close to four months.
Since the air-conditioning units have been down for repair at the southern
school, it has forced administrators to run on a revised bell schedule.
The visiting WASC team is not an accrediting team. The visiting team will
send its findings to an accrediting team in Washington, D.C., which will
then make their decisions based on the visiting teams findings and
presentation.
Two weeks ago, the WASC team presented some of its findings to GPSS and
the Guam Education Policy Board. The WASC team members said they were
impressed with their visit of John F. Kennedy High School.
GPSS public information officer Gerry Cruz earlier told Variety that the
JFKHS report given to school officials was satisfactory although
there were some areas of concern, including the schools old structure.
