THE Guam Police Department
arrested a Santa Rita resident last week after he allegedly stole a 2007
Toyota Corolla.
Richard Sablan, 35, was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle.
Sablan appeared before a Superior Court judge for a magistrate hearing.
According to court documents, police were investigating a stolen vehicle
report filed on Jan. 15, 2007 when, on April 19, the vehicle was spotted
at an Agat residence by a marshal who was there to serve documents at
that residence.
The operator of the vehicle who was present at the time first said
that it was his vehicle. But when formally interviewed by police
Sablan
admitted that in January, he was working for Pacific Gas at an unknown
Chinese restaurant serving gas equipment when he noticed some keys in
a container on a shelf. He took them and later, when he was walking in
the Harmon loop area near the restaurant and feeling depressed for various
reasons and needing a ride, he remembered the keys, court documents
read.
Sablan then spotted an unsecured car and drove it away with one of the
keys and has since used the vehicle as his own, according to documents.
Police were able to recover various stolen personal property as well.
The rightful owner of the vehicle confirmed that the vehicle was his and
that it was stolen near his work in Dededo.
