CDA’s Calvo upbeat on reappointment

THE chairman of the Commonwealth Development Authority believes that he will be re-appointed for another four-year term.
Vincent Calvo said he has already complied with all the requirements of the Senate which has to confirm his nomination.
Calvo’s term expires today. He was re-appointed by Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez, who was then acting governor, but Gov. Benigno R. Fitial later made his own appointment, Vito Ulloa, for Rota’s seat on the CDA board.
Calvo is a Babauta administration appointee. He and other CDA board members submitted their courtesy resignation shortly after Fitial became governor.
Fitial then re-appointed Calvo, Marcie Tomokane, Pedro Itibus, and Edwin Hofschneider.
“I am still the chairman of the board of CDA as I was designated in acting capacity for 90 days,” Calvo said in a phone interview. “If the Senate does not act on my re-appointment, I will vacate the position. But I am optimistic that the administration will acknowledge my contributions to the agency.”
Calvo said he has already submitted to the Senate his drug test results, financial records and resume
“I still trust that the board and the governor will support my re-appointment,” he said, adding that he wants to bring CDA back on track.
“I want to see CDA back on track and rebuild its integrity and let its officials and personnel feel that they are important to the agency,” he said.
Press Secretary Charles P. Reyes Jr. said the appointments to the CDA board made by the governor and lt. governor were the result of “confusion.”
“I understand that the governor’s special assistant for programs and legislative review failed to recall one of the appointments, resulting in some confusion,” Reyes said in an e-mail to Variety yesterday.
