A 31-year-old convicted burglar
arrested again for stealing a sack of copper wire has been released from
the custody of the Department of Corrections.
Jose B. Manglona posted a $10,000 property bond on Thursday.
Manglona appeared for a bail modification hearing last week and Judge
Kenneth Govendo, who originally imposed a cash bail of $10,000, granted
the defendants motion for bail modification.
Manglona was represented by Assistant Public Defender Adam Hardwicke while
the government was represented by Assistant Attorney General Joseph Taijeron.
Manglona will appear in Superior Court on May 11 for arraignment.
The police affidavit stated that a Telesource employee called of the Department
of Public Safety on April 9 and reported a theft at the Maui Well in Marpo
Valley, Tinian.
A police investigation disclosed that an employee found a sack and an
axe at the pump station in Marpo Valley while the employee and two other
companions were checking a telephone pole.
The employee asked his companion to keep an eye on the white sack filled
with aluminum wires while he and the other employee checked the pump station.
The companion joined the two employees later, leaving the sack out of
sight and unattended.
When the employee noticed that his companion was with them, he ran to
the site where the sack was and discovered it was missing. He immediately
reported the incident to police.
Manglona was seen by an eyewitness running from a farm. Police officers
searched the area but failed to find Manglona.
Investigators monitored the area and later saw Manglona on his mothers
property, loading black trash bags and securing a rice sack in a blue
plastic container.
Manglona then drove away and was later seen at the Tinian Triple Star
Brass/Copper Company.
The police officers confirmed later from Tinian Triple Star personnel
that Manglona sold the aluminum wire to the company.
A Telesource employee positively identified the wire, saying that Telesource,
through the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., is the only company that purchases
such wire.
Manglona was convicted of burglary for breaking into the residence of
Russel Long in May 2006.
He was also charged for burglarizing the Department of Land and Natural
Resources office on Tinian.
This charge was dismissed by the government when Manglona signed a plea
agreement in February this year. He pleaded guilty to one count of burglary
for breaking into Longs property.
