The issue of Students Work Experience Program budget for 2007 will be on top of the agenda in tomorrow’s meeting of the Belau Employers and Educators Alliance.
The meeting is set at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday April 18 at the Ming’s Hall of Palasia Hotel.
BEEA President Joy Baules in a letter to the Senate on April 7 called on interested agencies and companies to attend this important luncheon meeting.
Baules noted that since 2000, the BEEA has the privilege of helping to train high school students through various work-based activities such as career practicum, mentoring job and SWEP.
She said that many of the graduates of the program have moved on to college while others have sought employment in local agencies and companies.
"Now, with decreasing US Federal Assistance through the Ministry of Education we are faced with the responsibility to absorb student stipend for the upcoming SWEP in June of this year," Baules wrote.
She said that every summer in the past, there had been 200 high school students working for two months with a budget of $80,000.
She said that MOE has pledge $40,000 for this year’s SWEP and therefore BEEA member agencies and companies are requested to come up with remaining $40,000.
"In collaboration with the Ministry of Health Cancer Coalition Program (OMUB – Omellemel ma Ulekeruil a Bedenged) we have organized our membership meeting on a cost-sharing basis which will allow OMUB members an opportunity to conduct a brief cancer presentation during the meeting," Baules also noted.
