THE second part
of the high school and junior high school qualifying trials for the 2007
McDonalds All Schools Track and Field Championships were held last
Thursday with Southern High School dominating the throwing events.
Southern senior Sylvan Rangamar led the Manta Rays triumph in throwing
events, as he posted a new meet record in the discus throw in the boys
15-18 age group with his 43.60m heave.
With his record-breaking performance, Rangamar beat five other participants
in the discus throw. Kagmans Jordan Tagabuel placed second with
his 25.27m, followed by teammate Joshua Nakashima (24.42m) and Kagmans
Chris Palero (22.76m), Richard Ogumoro (22.38m) and Edward San Nicolas
(21.47m).
All six qualified for the McDonalds All Schools trackfest, which
will be held on May 12 at the Oleai Sports Complex track and field facility.
Nakashima redeemed himself in the javelin posting 37.26m to beat Kagmans
John Santos (37.10m) and teammate Leroy Rangamar (35.52m). The three students
gained slots in the May tournament along with Sylvan Tagabuel, Hopwoods
Vicente Cepeda and Kagmans Edward San Nicolas and Keoni Chariton.
The Lady Rays Eva Ito topped the girls javelin with her 28.15m.
She outclassed Hopwoods Yue Wang, MHSs Rachel Rangamar and
Kagmans Yvonne Bennett. All four are assured of slots in the meet.
Lei Rangamar beat sister Rachel in the girls discus with the former
recording 23m compared to the latters 21.62m. Wang was third, while
Ito placed fourth.
Hopwoods Reylynn Sapong and JR Concepcion continued to dominate
running events in the junior high school division, as they ruled the trials
in the 400m and 800m races.
Sapong timed in at one minute, 14.73 seconds in the 400m qualifier to
beat six other runners.
Also qualified to race in the 400m are Hopwoods Sarah Aldan, Marbelyn
Asito, Tracy Uchay, Christina Tudela and Joan Defang and Whispering Palms
Madison Schultz
Sapong clocked 3:13.77 in the 800m beating Schultz, who posted 3:39.65
and also qualified for the McDonalds trackfest.
Concepcion timed in at 1:07.77 in the 400m and 2:45.60 in the 800m.
Also clinching tickets for next months trackfest are ChaChas
Kolfred Mettao, Whispering Palms Lucas Knecht, Hopwoods Nino
Feria, ChaChas Douglas Dillay, Hopwoods Rocco Reyes, Saipan
Community Schools Jeremy Williams and Grace Christian Academys
Samuel Mosley in the 400m and Hopwoods James Rabauliman and Stephen
Austin in the 800m.
In the junior high schools 3000m, the qualifiers are Hopwoods
Lina Manalili, Nicko Salem and In Boom Choo and Saipan Community Schools
Joseph Martin.
The list of qualifiers in other events will be published in tomorrows
issue of the Variety.
