THE G-Stars cruised to back-to-back wins in the boys’ 16-and-under division of the 2007 NYBA 16-and-under Basketball League after thwarting the Sonics last Friday at the Garapan basketball court.
Unlike their easy debut win over the Kagman Explosives last Wednesday, 100-47, the G-Stars needed to work harder to down the stubborn Sonics, 70-59.
After leading by only five at halftime, 35-30, Jericho Cruz and Guy Mosley teamed up in the second half to give the G-Stars a wider distance en route to their second win in as many games.
Cruz, who had only seven points in the first half, nailed 12 markers in the second half, while Mosley drilled 12 of his 16 points in the last 20 minutes of the game.
Mosley and Cruz were the only two players to score in double figures for the G-Stars with the latter finishing with 17 points.
Mike Eclevia topscored for the Sonics with 14 points, but he was held to only two fieldgoals in the second half.
With the loss, the Sonics dropped to a 1-1 slate
In another 16-and-under game, the G-Rollers 1 clobbered the G-Rollers 2, 53-25.
The G-Rollers 1 had four players scoring in double figures with Luizi Reye sleading the way with 12 markers. Vince Iglecias chipped in 11, while Trevor Ogumoro and Kyle Concepcion had 10 apiece.
The G-Rollers 1 limited the G-Rollers 2 to 10 points in the first half to take a 39-10 lead. The former never looked back from thereon.
In the boys’ 14-and-under division, the Sonics nipped the G-Rollers 2, 56-52.
Tristan Ecalnea led the Sonics four-point debut win scoring 23 points.
Mart Sablan paced the G-Rollers 2 with 17 points, but it was not enough to save his team from dropping to a 1-1 slate.
