National DI institute to pay for GPSS programs

THE Guam Public School System has received a gracious offer of resources and support from the National Institute for Direct Instruction for the implementation of the Direct Instruction, or DI, programs in some public schools.
GPSS, in a statement, said that earlier this month, the creator of the DI reading program assured Education Superintendent Luis Reyes that if the school system needed further assistance in implementing the program, they would step in to assist.
“We will support you with additional trainer time (for which you will not be charged), and we will help you set up studies that document improvement and high achievement levels,” said Siegfried Engelmann, director of the National Institute for Direct Instruction in a letter to Reyes.
Engelmann also informed Re-yes to contact him if GPSS needed anything further with regard to training for the DI program.
