The rain showers
for the past few days have increased the water supply in Ngerimel Dam
in Airai to only one foot.
The National Weather Service said that the months of January, February
and March are the driest months of the year and that the amount of rainfall
for the first quarter are low compared to last year.
President Remengesau still urged the community to conserve water because
the dam is still six feet below its normal levels.
The president however said the rainfall is getting back to normal.
Earlier the Ministry of Resources and Development (MRD) said that the
Ngerimel Dam in Airai is in its critical stage and that the water rationing
is a possibility.
He said that because of El Nino, Palau need to experience some rain to
allow the dam to be filled up.
He said that about 4 million gallons everyday are pumped in Koror.
Koshiba said either the community pray for rain or start conserving water
to avoid water rationing.
The government has asked the community to report leaking pipes and various
establishments were called to initiate water conservation measures.
