KITZ Barja returned
to Saipan Bowling Center last Monday with more weapons in his arsenal
to claim the Pepsi April King of the Lanes crown, while Emi Williams
score was unbeaten giving her the Queen of the Lanes tiara.
Barja, who placed only third after last Sundays roll-off, played
anew last Monday and had 818 pinfalls to beat Alex Cacdac (817) and Sunday
leader Simon Manacop (815).
Barja bowled last Sunday and posted 765 pinfalls. Manacop had 815, while
Raymond Angeles was in second with 768. Cacdac only bowled last Monday.
Barja had a hot start when he played last Monday knocking down 245 pins
in Game 1. Cacdac had the third best score in Game 1 with 224. Percy Omechelang
scored the second best with 233, but dropped to 14th place after struggling
in the last three games.
The eventual April King scored 196 and 178 in Games 2 and 3, respectively
for a total of 617.
Manacop after a slow start scoring 187 pinfalls had a 219 and 229 in Games
2 and 3, respectively, for an 18-point lead against Barja, going into
the last game.
Barja took the lead and the monthly honors from Manacop when the former
knocked down 201 pins in Game 4. Manacop had his lowest output in Game
4 last Monday with 180 pinfalls. Cacdac, who had 596 pinfalls after three
games, had the second best score in Game 4 with 221, but fell short of
claiming the top spot.
Barja had a 156.25 average in four games last Monday, while Cacdac and
Manacop posted an identical average of 154.50.
Twenty-two bowlers competed for the King of the Lanes title.
Fourteen keglers tried to steal the Queen of the Lanes tiara from Williams,
but failed.
Williams bowled last Sunday and had 720 pinfalls.
Her closest rival was Hye Seo II, who knocked down 706 pins last Monday.
Gigi Zapanta, who placed second after last Sundays match with 666
pinfalls, dropped to fifth, as Lala Taitano (685) and Jerrie Vales (679)
bowled last Monday and finished third and fourth, respectively.
Elena Soll, who was in third place last Sunday with 642 pinfalls, played
again last Monday but scored only 634 for ninth place.
Participants in the Saipan Bowling Associations monthly roll-offs
are allowed to bowl for two days, but only the highest score is counted.
