DESPITE limited
practice time, Team Errico had a decent finish in the 25th Guam Smokin
Wheels Extravaganza held from April 13 to 15 at the Calvo Memorial Raceway
Park in Yigo.
Ellery Cruz and Melvin Cepeda, who arrived on Guam April 13 finished fifth
overall in the motorcycle enduro race on April 14. Cruz also competed
in the 125 Open supercross on the same day and had another fifth place
finish.
Chris Alepuyo participated in the Guam Cup ATV, also on April 14, and
placed second in his heat. Later that night, Alepuyo challenged Japanese
riders for a quarter mile exhibition races.
The three riders in an email said they had a wonderful time in the tournament.
They were thankful for the experience and for the chance to represent
Saipan in the biggest race in the Pacific.
Cepeda, Cruz and Alepuyo thanked Eric Cruz of Errico Enterprises for sponsoring
their Guam trip.
The three riders are hoping that more Marianas Racing Association members
will compete in the Smokin Wheels next year.
Meanwhile, Cepeda, Cruz and Alepuyo along with other MRA riders will be
back at the Cowtown Raceway Park in Marpi for another point race this
Sunday.
This weekends race will be the second point race in April. The first
point race of this month was held on April 15.
MRA usually holds one point race per month, but it decided to hold two
this month to make up for last months absence of a point race. There
were no races in March, as MRA riders went to Rota for a series of exhibition
races.
MRA holds point races to determine the top riders in each division at
the end of the season.
Walter Sablan, Emelsha Cepeda, , Kijay Ada, Nathan Quitano, Patty Cepeda,
Aaron Pangelinan, Shane Alvarez, Ellery Cruz, Steve Sablan dominated their
respective events in the April 15 races.
