THE Bob OConner/Masters
notched back-to-back wins in the 2007 Saipan Major League baseball tournament
after nipping the Young Guns, 5-3, last Monday at the Francisco Tan
Ko Palacios Ballfield.
The game was tied at 3-all, after four innings, but the Masters
defense shut out the Young Guns in the last five innings to improve the
formers record to 4-3. The Masters claimed their third over the
Korean Jaguars last Wednesday.
The low-scoring game showed the opposing teams struggling at the plate
and playing tough defense on the field.
Mel Sakisat pitched in no relief and had six strikeouts, making five of
them in the last five innings of the match.
On offense, Paul Camacho went 3-for-5 with three runs, two singles and
a triple for the Masters. He was the lone bright spot on the Masters
offense, as most of his teammates had only one hit.
Overall, the Masters went 9-for-40, while the Young Guns went 9-for-37.
M. San Nicolas and N. Topper had the highest percentage at bat for the
Young Guns, as they both went 3-for-4. San Nicolas also had two runs and
three singles, while Topper made three singles.
Meanwhile, the Korean Jaguars hope to enter the win column when they collide
with the Ford Rangers tonight.
The Jaguars are winless in six games, while the Rangers have a 2-3 record.
The defending champion Bud Kings are leading the league with a perfect
6-0 slate, while the Tanapag Falcons are in third place with a 3-2 slate.
