GOVERNOR Benigno R. Fitial yesterday announced that Continental Airlines will bring in charter flights to Saipan in August.
“It’s good news,” he said. “Continental Airlines will be bringing its 31 charter flights beginning Aug. 1,” the governor said, adding that these additional flights will come from Osaka, Japan.
Fitial said he had just received the message from Continental, but this was not confirmed by this reporter as of press time last night.
“The administration and the Marianas Visitor Authority are working very hard to increase the number of air seats and bring Japanese tourists back to the CNMI because they’re still our strong tourism market,” he said.
The 31 charter flights are in addition to the new regular flights of Asiana Airlines.
“Asiana will be having daytime flights four times a week beginning on May 27…and as an acknowledgement of this effort by Kumho Group, I have tasked MVA to spearhead a special welcome ceremony honoring Kumho,” the governor said.
