A grand jury
in Guam District Court yesterday indicted a couple from Astumbo in Dededo,
the main suspects in a series of burglaries and drug deals on the island.
Raymond Ignacio Duenas Jr., 33, and his wife Lourdes Castro Duenas, 40,
were charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, possession
of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and using and carrying a
firearm during a drug trafficking crime.
A previous federal court indictment only charged Raymond Duenas with possession
with intent to distribute methamphetamine but further investigations showed
that his wife Lourdes Duenas allegedly conspired to commit the said offenses
from April 20, 2006 to April 20, 2007.
Similar charges including multiple counts of burglary were also filed
in the Superior Court of Guam against the couple arrested during a search
at their residence on Y-Sengson Road in Dededo last Friday.
Drug Enforcement Administration agents and members of the Guam Police
Department discovered a Ziploc bag with approximately 76 grams of methamphetamine
otherwise known as ice in their house.
The indictment record states that Duenas was in possession of methamphetamine.
And with an intent to distribute the illegal substance, he was carrying
and using a Ruger pistol and a 9mm caliber.
Raiding teams also confiscated from the Duenas couple home appliances,
tools and firearms such as a Winchester shotgun, a Rossi shotgun, a 12-gauge
shotgun, a Harrington & Richardson 12 gauge shotgun, and a semi-automatic
pistol.
The couples preliminary examination in the federal court is set
for April 30, 2007 at 10 a.m.
Atty. John Gorman of the Federal Public Defenders Office was appointed
to represent the Duenas couple.
