EDUCATION Superintendent
Luis Reyes said he is optimistic about the visit of a Western Association
of Schools and Colleges, or WASC, team to Southern High School.
Reyes sat in yesterdays WASC exit review at Southern High School.
They said good things are going on at the school but at the same
time there are still some things we need to work on and improve. Overall,
I am optimistic that we can get the accreditation. We are striving for
a six-year accreditation. But I dont mind having a three-year accreditation,
Reyes told Variety.
Reyes said the WASC team did not say much about the Santa Rita campus
air-conditioning units.
The Guam Public School System, according to Reyes, is banking on the governors
bond borrowing case for funding to repair the schools air-conditioning
units.
I explained that GPSS budgeted up to $33 million for fiscal year
2007 but since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against the bond borrowing
case, we are now back to square one, he added.
Reyes said the WASC team informed him that they know what it is like to
have budget problems.
