TANAPAG Elementary School and San Vicente downed separate foes to gain their first win in the 2006-2007 Elementary School Boys and Girls’ Fast-pitch Softball tournament.
San Vicente whipped Tanapag Elementary School in the boys’ division, 14-4, last Tuesday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
Earlier last Tuesday, Tanapag’s girls’ team bowed to the Lady Canaries, 4-15, but the Tatagas recovered yesterday slipping past Garapan Elementary School, 11-10.
The Garapan Mallards were playing the Tatagas in the boys’ division yesterday with the former leading, 7-2, after three complete innings. The complete results of the match were unavailable at press time.
San Vicente won its debut game in the boys’ division, as pitcher Tyron allowed only four hits in four innings.
Tanapag and San Vicente struggled at the plate at the start with the Canaries scoring only one run in the first inning.
The Tatagas were shut out at the bottom of the first and scored all their four runs in the second inning.
San Vicente also had a four-run second inning to keep a 1-point lead, 5-4, entering the third inning.
The Canaries then shut out the Tatagas in the last two innings for a 10-run rule win.
Art led San Vicente going 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs and two singles.
In yesterday’s girls’ division game, the Tatagas allowed the Lady Mallards only one hit in the last two innings to eke out a close win.
A six-run third inning gave the Lady Mallards a 9-8 lead, entering the fourth inning.
At the top of the fourth, Garapan scored one more run to take a 10-8 lead.
But Tanapag answered with three runs at the bottom of the fourth to steal the lead, 11-10.
Tanapag pitcher Julia struck out Garapan’s leadoff batter and the Tatagas’ defense stood tall throwing out the next two batters to steal the game.
Meanwhile, in last Tuesday’s game, it was inadvertently reported that WSR lost to Dandan in the girls’ division. For the record, WSR won the game, as it was the Tottots who failed to field enough players for the match.
The nine teams entered in the tournament will play in a single round-robin format in the preliminary round with each team facing the squads in their own group. SVES, Tanapag, GES, GTC and Kagman are in Pool A, while WSR, DES, OEA and Koblerville are in Pool B.
The top two placers in Pool A will battle for the first finals berth, while the No. 1 and 2 squads in Pool B will meet for the last championship ticket.
Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in both the girls and boys’ divisions.
The girls’ finals is set for May 17, while the boys’ winner-take-all championship game is scheduled for May 18.
