THE Airport Police Firefighters entered the win column in the 2007 Inter-government Basketball League after nipping Customs, 82-81, last Tuesday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
Jawn Joyner drilled 31 points, including nine in the crucial fourth quarter, to give the Firedawgs their first win in three games and hand Customs its second straight loss.
It was a come-from-behind win for ARFF, as Customs controlled the game in the first half.
Customs took an early 11-point lead, 21-10, with John Sablan waxing hot from downtown hitting three triples.
But Joyner started to bring the Firedawgs back into the game in the second quarter. He nailed 12 points in the second period to move ARFF within one at halftime, 36-37.
Joyner continue to lead the Firedawgs in the second half firing eight more points and his efforts were finally rewarded, as they stole the lead at the end of the third quarter, 55-52.
Sablan tried to put Customs back into the lead nailing 13 points in the fourth quarter, but Joyner was there to preserve the win, as the latter had another eight-point performance in the final period.
Joyner also found an ally in Jerome Reyes in the fourth quarter, as the latter added eight markers and scored six of the Firedawgs last 10 points. Reyes finished with 18 markers.
Sablan paced Customs with 31 points.
In the second game, All Out leaned on a 17-point lead in the third quarter en route to a 64-59 win over the Legislature.
All Out entered the fourth period leading at 58-41. It scored only six points in the fourth quarter, but still preserved the victory, as the Lawmakers ran out of time in the final period.
The Lawmakers played a catch- up game all night, as they started slow nailing only 10 points in the first period.
All Out also struggled offensively in the opening quarter and led by only four, 14-10, entering the second quarter.
But with John Aguon drilling eight markers in the second period, All Out took a 34-22 halftime lead.
The lead increased to 17 at the end of the third period, 58-41, with Donald Taitano leading All Out’s offense scoring eight in that quarter.
The Lawmakers tried to come back with their triples hitting four shots from downtown, but the clock was not on their side and All Out needed only six points in the fourth period to secure its second win in as many games.
Taitano topscored for All Out with 16 points, while Ray Duenas paced the Lawmakers with 29 markers.
