TWO distressed vessels were
rescued by the Department of Public Safetys Boating Safety Section
in separate incidents.
DPS spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro said the first incident was reported at 12:32
noon seven miles west of Sugar Dock on Saturday.
The 17-foot green and white boat with a 130-horsepower Yamaha engine is
owned by Jesse Dubrall.
The boat was towed back to the Smiling Cove Marina and Dubrall and the
two crew members, Roy Kaipat and Simon Manacop, were found to be in good
condition.
The boat left the Fishing Base at 6:30 a.m. to go trolling. At 12:20 noon,
as the boat was heading back to Saipan, the engine died and could not
be restarted.
The second incident was reported on Wednesday at 2:39 p.m. by the Emergency
Management Office.
The vessel owned by Saipan Watercraft Inc. encountered engine trouble
nine to ten miles west of the island and was towed back to Sugar Dock.
The boat was operated by Rogelio D. Trajeco.
Both of the vessels were found to be in compliance with CNMI and federal
