A WOMAN who was behind in
her tax payments tried to forged documents to be presented to the Department
of Revenue and Taxation by stealing an Official Treasurer of Guam stamp.
Joanne Fabros Olores, 42, is now facing charges of theft of property after
she was caught on tape taking the government-paid stamp.
The Guam Department of Revenue and Taxation called police to their Barrigada
office on April 24 after one of the cashiers discovered that the assigned
and controlled stamp was missing in her counter where she meets with the
public.
She noticed the missing stamp shortly after the close of business on April
23. The stamp is used to indicate payments on official documents and could
be used to forge documents.
A surveillance camera tape was reviewed and Olores was identified as the
one who opened her purse and reached unto the cashiers booth, after
the cashier had walked away from her counter just before 5 p.m.
Olores, who had recently been behind in her taxes, also wrote some checks
to the Treasurer of Guam that were not cleared.
Olores first denied taking the stamp when contacted and questioned, but
later admitted to taking the stamp after police told her that she was
caught on camera taking the government property.
At the request of police, Olores handed the stamp over to them.
During an interview, Olores claimed that the stamp was taken by accident,
that she reached through the counter to obtain a pen, and was so tired
that she didnt realize what she had taken home with her.
Olores further explained that she was planning to return it the next day
to the Department of Revenue and Taxation office.
