Residents benefit from land program

By Gerardo R. Partido

THE government yesterday helped two more Guam residents move forward with their plans to become homeowners after signing two deeds for Anita Manibusan and Maria Fukushima under the Land for the Landless Program.
In a statement, Gov. Felix P. Camacho said helping island residents realize their dreams of homeownership has been a commitment of his administration and government agencies have been instrumental in providing these opportunities.
“Land ownership is a precious right and I am honored to present these deeds,” the governor said.
The Land for the Landless Program was made available to Guam residents in 1985 and provided more than 1,000 lots in Dededo, Talofofo, Umatac, Inarajan and Merizo that have benefited about 500 local families.
Buyers were able to purchase these lots for $2,500 over a 10-year period.
Manibusan and Fukushima were officially presented the deeds to their new land in the As-Lucas Subdivision in Talofofo by Lt. Gov. Michael Cruz in his Chambers at Adelup yesterday.
