Del. Lucio Ngiraiwet will
replace Del. William Ngiraikelau as member of the Palau Compact Review
Commission.
Ngiraiwet will replace Ngiraikelau after the latter resigned from the
commission last April 9..
House Speaker Antonio Belle on Monday informed President Remengesau in
a letter.
The commission is tasked with reviewing the terms of the Compact since
by the year 2009 most of the funding that Palau receives will end.
The measure was proposed to prepare for Palaus participation in
the review process with the United States.
The Commission shall be composed of nine members, five members will be
appointed by the president with the advice and consent of the Senate ,
two ex officio members from the Senate and two ex officio members from
the House of Delegates.
The review commission will require among other tasks, extensive economic
analysis, governance planning, and predictions about where Palau is headed.
The commission will also have to analyze the past decades of relations
with the United States , coupled with other extraneous relations.
