Govendo, Manglona will seek retention

TWO Superior Court judges are seeking retention in November because “there is still so much to be done in court.”
Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo said he is “looking forward to the opening of our connecting families visitation center and the start of our Kid’s First Program in which parents will be counseled about the effects of divorce and separation on their children.”
Govendo said he feels that a lot of progress has taken place in family court over the last three years.
“The word is out that there is zero tolerance when it comes to domestic violence and abuse. We have tried to make the family court ‘user friendly’ so people who cannot afford an attorney can get before a judge quickly,” Govendo said.
Govendo received his official acknowledgement letter from the Commonwealth Election Commission on April 17.
Gregorio C. Sablan, executive director of the commission informed Govendo that his name will be placed on the general election ballot after the judge expressed his intention to seek retention.
In a separate interview, Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona said she decided to seek another term as her work on the bench is “very challenging and warming.”
“I’ve been in the judiciary for almost four years and I found that my work is very challenging and very warming at the same time. I believe that there’s more to be done. I have proved my capacity in the judiciary positively and in administrative ways so I hope people will look at my judiciary work and realize that what I’ve done is something positive,” Manglona said on Friday.
Manglona said her husband, Associate Justice John Manglona, is also seeking retention in November.
