(DEQ) The Division
of Environmental Quality is inviting all interested public and private
agencies to join the celebration of the 24th Annual Environmental Awareness
at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library on May 1, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
Several agencies from the public and private sector will be demonstrating
the many ways we can protect our environment and let our islands
shine.
Students and interested individuals may stop by and check the presentations
by Ace Hardware, Allied Pacific Environmental Consulting, Coastal Resources
Management, the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., the Department of Community
and Cultural Affairs-Historic Preservation Office, the Emergency Management
Office, the Department of Public Safetys Boating Safety and Fire
Division, the Department of Public Works solid waste division, the
Marianas Variety, Microl Corp. (Toyota), the Soil and Water Conservation
District, and Marianas Resource and Development, No Ka Oi Termite and
Pest Control, Hotel Nikko Saipan, and the Saipan Mayors Office.
This years theme is Let Our Islands Shine. Community
involvement, stewardship, and fun are integral elements of this momentous
occasion.
DEQ is challenging all community members and agencies to show Marianas
Pride for Our Environment by participating in the celebration.
Annual events slated for the environmental awareness month include Sustainable
Living Festival, together with the Cook a Rainbow Challenge. DEQ
also conducted various competitions as part of the month-long awareness
campaign. They are recycling competition, lagoon cleanup, most beautiful
village contest, and a poem and essay competition.
