THE Guam Fire Department commissioned its newest boat named “Rescue 2” last week.
The 33-foot vessel features an air-conditioned pilot house, global positioning system, or GPS, equipment, built-in radar plotter, depth finding equipment, and VHF radio band capabilities, according to the Office of the Governor.
“I am honored to join the men and women of the Guam Fire Department in commissioning ‘Rescue 2’…,” Gov. Felix P. Camacho said in a statement. “We are moving forward with our commitment to public safety and this new rescue boat will help rescuers in their mission to protect our people and visitors.”
The vessel was purchased through Compact-Impact funds and is one of the three recently-purchased rescue boats that will serve GFD, along with the Guam Police Department, and the Guam Customs and Quarantine Agency.
This vessel will enhance GFD’s water rescue missions.
