The Government
has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Pacific Islands Applied
Geoscience Commission that would help formulate a National Water Safety
Plan for Palau.
Coinciding with the Earth Day activities, the signing was done at the
Ministry of Resources and Development Office in Koror with Min. Fritz
Koshiba signing on behalf of Palau.
Senator Santy Asanuma, Minister Victor Yano, EQPBs Donald Dengokl,
Bureau of Public Works Techur Rengulbai were also present.
Officials of the World Health Organization were also present. They were
Peter Burt and Christopher Bergen from New Zealand Ministry of Health
and Mitesh Muliar (WHO).
Palau secured $10,000 from SOPAC to be used for public water supply education.
WHO is funding the project through the SOPAC, an inter-governmental, regional
organization dedicated to provide products and services in three technical
program areas of Community Lifelines, Community Risk, and Ocean and Islands.
Its Secretariat is based in Suva, Fiji.
Details of the 36-page document was unavailable as of presstime yesterday.
