Senator Caleb
Otto picked every bit of trash along the way including cigarette butts
as he joined last Saturdays pick-n-walk, an annual event of Earth
Day activities.
The picking of trash wherever Otto finds one and during his regular exercises
became a habit for the lawmaker.
The day before the race while still off island for an official trip, Ottos
heroic act to make the environment clean was rewarded.
The Senator is this years individual recipient of the Environmental
Excellence Award.
His wife Judy accepted the award from Kliu Basilius, EQPBs Environmental
Outreach Officer, during the Earth Day activities at the Midtown Mobil.
Students from the Melekeok Elementary School (16 5th-8th graders and teacher
Kerungil Tellei) were awarded with the Environmental Excellence for Group
Category. These students pick-up trash along the roads as well as clean
the surroundings during weekends in their State.
Koror State was given the Environmental Excellence Award for government
category for the second straight year.
Basilius said that KSG was selected again because of its work in setting-up
waste segregation that aimed to reduce the amount of trash as well as
its work in helping to educate the public of this program.
The EQPB, the lead agency in the annual Earth Day activity, also gave
KSG the same award when it is on planning stage.
Basilius explained that the KSG is now on the implementation and are making
progress in how it educates the public and how the people accept the program.
KSG has set-up segration stations in Dngeronger, Ngerbeched and Ngesaol.
