THE Office of the Public Auditor and Tinian cruised to their second win in as many games in the 2007 Inter-government Basketball League after downing foes in similar fashion last Thursday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
OPA clobbered the Ports Police, 111-57, to nail back-to-back victories in Pool B, while in a Pool A match, Tinian also improved to a 2-0 record after whipping the Department of Corrections, 113-90.
The Ports Police dropped to a 1-2 slate, while Corrections remains winless in three games.
The Ports Police gave OPA a good fight only in the first quarter as the former was only down by six, 18-24.
But OPA stepped on the gas pedal in the second and third quarters to score a 54-point win.
With Ponce Rasa scoring 10 points in the second quarter and Chris Camacho adding eight, OPA outgunned the Ports Police, 31-11, to take a commanding 55-29 halftime lead.
The Ports Police were in even worse shape in the third quarter, as they were held to nine points, while OPA had another well-run offense firing 28 points to enter the final canto with a comfortable 83-38 advantage.
Rasa finished with 26 points, while Steve Rasa contributed 20 markers. Camacho chipped in 14. Tim Wesley was the other double figure scorer for OPA with 11.
Mike Guerrero paced the Ports Police with 15 markers.
The rout of the Ports Police was OPA’s second straight big win, as they pounded the Legislature, 113-31, in the league opener on April 9.
In the second game, Tinian also broke the game wide open in the second quarter outgunning Corrections, 36-17.
The first quarter ended with Tinian up by only a deuce, 18-16.
But John Santos, who was held to three points in the first quarter, found his marks in the second period drilling 14 points, while Anthony Borja contributed nine to give Tinian a 54-33 lead.
Corrections tried to bounce back in the second half, as it doubled its production in the first half in the last 20 minutes of game, but to no avail, as Tinian continued to hit from outside.
Tinian made eight triples, while Corrections had six.
Four Tinian players scored more than 20 points showing the defending champion’s offensive firepower.
Santos and Borja topscored for Tinian with 24 points apiece, while Peter Manglona and Jess Manibusan added 23 and 22 markers, respectively. Santos had four triples, while Borja hit two. John Sablan was the other double figure scorer for Tinian with 14.
Jeff Quitugua led Corrections with 27 points, while Iramk Simada chipped in 15. Greg Blas and D. Joab had 13 points apiece.
Tinian’s debut win was against Airport Police Firefighters, 98-90, three weeks ago.
