Ol’Aces win three in a row; Hoopaholics recover

SCORING machine Fred Pelisamen had another 30-point plus performance to power the Ol’Aces to an 87-73 victory over Hi-Five in the the SAIPANCELL/BANMI 25-and-under Basketball League last Saturday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
Pelisamen, who fired 32 points in the Ol’Aces’ 70-57 triumph against the Garapan Rollers on April 14, nailed 31 markers in his team’s 14-point win over Hi-Five.
With the Ol’Aces hitting their shots from downtown early connecting on three triples, they took a 12-point lead at the end of the first period, 23-12.
Pelisamen, who had 11 points in the first quarter, slowed down a bit in the second making only five points, but the Ol’Aces hung on to a 40-27 halftime lead.
Pelisamen started the second half with five straight points and had another scoring spree midway in the second period nailing eight consecutive markers to give the Ol’Aces a 66-46 lead, entering the final canto.
The Ol’Aces never looked back from thereon with J-Boy Deleon Guerrero also contributing to the team’s cause adding 14 markers.
Kevin Cequena paced Hi-Five with 20 points, but it was not enough to save his team from dropping to a 1-2 record.
In the first game, the Triple B Hoopaholics handed 670 its third loss in a row after notching a 79-64 victory.
Ben Sablan scored 18 points, while Mel Manibusan chipped in 15 to help the Hoopaholics recover from their 73-83 loss to the Sonics, two weeks ago, and improve their record to 2-2.
The Hoopaholics had a slow start giving 670 a chance to take a 21-18 lead after 10 minutes of play.
But Sablan took charge in the second quarter firing seven points to grab the lead at halftime, 36-33.
It was a close game at the start of the second half with the Hoopaholics leading by only two at the end of the third period, 54-52.
Manibusan opened the fourth quarter with eight straight points, getting easy inside shots using his height advantage to lead the Hoopaholics’ breakaway.
