PNCC Thanks Seven Summer Students

Palau National Communications Corporation (PNCC) recently held a special ceremony to show appreciation to seven of Palau’s work-study students who interned at PNCC over the summer. The students were participating in the Upward Bound Work Study Program and the Summer Work Experience Program (SWEP). PNCC has been hosting students in programs like this for over 17 years.
“PNCC is a Palauan-owned company so we want to show our young people how interesting it is to work in the high-tech world of communications, and encourage them to go on to higher education in related fields,” said Mahealany Oseked, PNCC Human Resources Manager. “We were happy to hear from one intern, Meleana Ngirmeriil, that thanks to her experience at PNCC, she is now planning to pursue a career in telecommunications,” she added.
The students who were placed at PNCC all received gifts and certificates of appreciation. While working at PNCC this summer, they experienced many areas of PNCC operations, including: Customer Service, Sales, Digital TV, International Transmission, Switching, and Telecom Plant.
When asked about some of the things they liked/learned at PNCC, one student commented that she was able to learn about DSL, how it works; finally understood how long distance calls are routed, learned how to do the shift schedule, phone etiquette, transfer and forward calls, and fax.
Another student said that she enjoyed learning about prepaid cards, getting familiarized with service order forms and Avabill (PNCC’s service order and customer care software), learning to work with different kinds of people, and assisting with customers.
There were four Upward Bound students who worked at PNCC this year: Likur Udui, Shane Skebong, Meleana Ngirmeriil, and Mary Ngirailemesang. The three SWEP students were Jasper Camacho, Verlanie Setsuo, and Mackenzy Madracheluib.
