PRELIMINARY data
from the Public School System revealed that it recorded a slight increase
in enrollment this year.
Education Commissioner David M. Borja yesterday said the PSS student population
as of Friday was 10,780.
The enrollment last year totaled 10,614 students from kindergarten to
12th grade.
The CNMI had an 11,600 student population including private school enrollment
and adult education students in the previous year.
A good accurate number of the PSS student population will be known
on Friday as I am expecting updated reports from the principals,
Borja told Variety.
He said large schools such as Hopwood Junior High and Marianas High School
have indicated an increase in enrollment.
As of Aug. 1, MHS had 1,215 students. This reached 1,251 two days later.
At Hopwood, 1,022 students enrolled as of August 1.
Borja said the school is now accommodating additional students.
Preliminary records from PSS as of August 1 showed that MHS had the highest
number of enrollees with 1,215; Saipan Southern High School, 760; Kagman
High School, 750; Hopwood, 1,022; and Chacha Oceanview, 469.
At the elementary level, Garapan Elementary topped the list with 844 students;
San Vicente, 807; William S. Reyes, 681; Dandan Elementary, 503; Gregorio
T. Camacho Elementary, 223; Kagman Elementary, 659; Koblerville, 461;
Oleai Elementary, 510; San Antonio Elementary, 329; and Tanapag Elementary,
227.
On Rota, Sinapalo Elementary had 232 students as of Aug. 1; Rota Junior
High School, 170; and Rota High School, 169.
On Tinian, Tinian Elementary recorded 331 enrollees while Tinian Junior
and High School had 320 students.
