Members of the Japanese Mie
Prefecture Club will be commemorating their 10th year Anniversary in Palau
on Feb. 3.
Over 171 members will be flying to Palau to celebrate the anniversary
to be held at the Ngarachamayong Cultural Center from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
with local dignitaries and community members attending.
A statement from the Office of the President said that there will be cultural
dance performances from Mie and Palau during the celebration.
In the last 10 years, over 17 individuals from Palau have been sent to
Mie Prefecture under a program established by Mie Prefecture providing
vocational technical training or hands on the job training.
The training also included about two months of intensive Japanese language
courses before starting their training.
Students who participated in the training have completed the course.
In 2005, Mie Prefecture also hosted a dinner for Palaus delegation
during their visit and performance for the World Expo held at Japan.
President Remengesau said that he is grateful for the strong ties , friendship
and assistance given by the club to Palau.
"Especially, on their commitment over the years to help Palau in
its economic development through their technical assistance program,"
the statement said.
The Office of the President further added that the republic through its
various agencies are coordinating with Mie Club to make their visit and
celebration a warm and successful event between the two groups.
