The Stingers remained unbeaten
as it posted an easy 80-73 victory over Topside On Fire on Tuesday night
in the NBL at the Palau National Gymnasium.
Vann Isaac, Charlie and Lovelynson combined for 32 points to lead the
Stingers to their 10th straight win in as many games and further tighten
their grip of the lead in Division II.
The loss was On Fires sixth in 10 games in 12th spot.
Also gaining more ground is Airai, which defeated Palau Pacific Resort,
84-80, for its fourth straight win.
Airai thus stayed in second place with a 9-3 record while PPR further
slipped to a 2-8 mark in 14th place.
Despe and Tkoel led Airai with 20 and 15 points, respectively as the team
recovered from 27-40 halftime deficit with a 28-17 and 29-26 runs in the
last two quarters to prevail over PPR, which absorbed its seventh straight
defeat.
In the other game, the Blue Sharks recovered in time to score a 70-68
win over the Jaguars.
The scores in each quarter are 21-12, 17-17, 7-23 25-16.
The Blue Sharks scored their last five points from the free throw line,
two from team captain Tutii Benjamin, two from Palmer and one from co-captain
Giovanny Silyang.
Stewart led in the scoring chore with 20, Benjamin had 15 while Silyang
and Palmer added 11 and 10.
With the win the Blue Sharks improved their record to 5-6 as they rebounded
from their loss in their previous game.
The current team standings are Stingers (10-0), Airai (9-3), Peches (6-2),
Jaguars (6-2), Bullets (5-5), PCC Mesekiu (5-5), Blue Sharks (5-6), Ngiwal
79ers (4-3), Matadors (4-4), Mesang (4-4), Ngiwal Central (4-5), Topside
On Fire (4-6), Klebokel (4-6), PPR (2-8), Kabong (2-9) and Kinsmen (1-7).
