HONIARA (Pacnews)
Taiwans first female vice foreign minister, Catherine Chang, has
arrived in Solomon Islands for a three-day state visit.
Chang, who was accompanied by a three-man delegation from the foreign
ministry in Taipei, is in Honiara at the invitation of the Solomon Islands
government.
Taiwan Embassys second secretary William Hsu said during Changs
stay in Honiara she will sign two bilateral agreements with Minister of
Foreign Affairs Patteson Oti.
One of the agreements will pave the way for advanced cooperation of mutual
benefits in agriculture, health, education, fisheries, forestry, commerce,
tourism and other sectors.
The other will encourage Taiwanese volunteers to work with their Solomon
Islands counterparts.
Chang will also have an audience with Governor-General Sir Nathaniel Waena,
hold talks with Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, Oti, Speaker of National
Parliament Sir Peter Kenilorea and cabinet ministers.
Hsu said the talks will focus on ways of strengthening mutual cooperation
and understanding between Solomon Islands and Taiwan.
