(OPA) Office
of the Public Auditor Senior Analyst Robert Camacho Torres was named a
Certified Internal Auditor by the Institute of Internal Auditors on Jan.
15.
The prestigious CIA designation is awarded to audit professionals
who have met the rigorous requirements of the Institutes Certified
Internal Auditor program, including a challenging four-part examination,
as well as high standards of character, education, and experience.
The exam was administered to over 31,000 candidates in November 2006 at
286 sites in 97 countries around the world. The CIA exam reflects the
current state of the art in internal auditing and evaluates technical
competence in important subject areas related to internal auditing such
as financial and managerial accounting, finance, economics, information
technology, fraud, legislation and regulations on businesses. The Certified
Internal Auditor designation is accepted and recognized in the United
States and internationally.
Torres, a graduate of the University of Nevada at Las Vegas with a B.A.
in Economics, joined OPA in May 2002. In addition to taking part in OPA-sponsored
auditor training programs, Torres took part in an on-the-job training
program at the DOI Inspector Generals office in 2003. For his outstanding
performance, hard work, and team spirit, OPA awarded Robert its Employee
of the Year Award in 2003.
In 2006, based on the evaluation and recommendation of OPA managers, Torres
was promoted to OPA Senior Analyst. He now supervises audits and audit
related engagements conducted in accordance with established auditing
standards.
Public Auditor Mike Sablan commended Robert Torres on his recent achievement
in earning the CIA professional designation. Torres was also the first
CNMI resident to earn the Certified Government Auditing Professional designation
in 2004.
Robert has been an exemplary employee of the office since his first
day at OPA, right out of college in 2002, Sablan said. He added
that Roberts participation in a recent joint engagement undertaken
by OPA and the DOI Inspector Generals Office has earned him professional
respect, praise and commendation from his audit counterparts in the Federal
Government. What the CIA and CGAP designations do is enhance Roberts
professional credibility as an accountability professional and through
it, the credibility of the work of the Office of the Public Auditor,
said Sablan. He has a bright future ahead of him, and I am proud
of the distinction he has brought to his family, the office, and community.
Robert Camacho Torres is the son of Rosita C. Torres and the late Joseph
W. Torres. He is married to Carla Coldeen, and they have two wonderful
daughters: Kristan Rose and Ava Marie.
