THE Guam Police
Department continues their search for the operator of a dark sport utility
vehicle alleged to have struck and dragged a bicyclist at 5:30 a.m. yesterday
on Marine Corps Drive in Asan. The operator of the SUV fled the scene.
A further description of the vehicle was not available as of press time.
The bicyclists name was not released but he remains in stable condition
at the Naval Regional Medical Center at Naval Hospital, according to COMNAVMAR
public affairs officer Lt. Donnell Evans.
GPD Highway Patrol Division investigator Danny Cepeda said the SUV was
traveling south in Asan near the Harley Davidson store when it struck
the bicyclist from behind.
The SUV dragged the bicyclist and the bicyclelodged underneath the
vehiclefor about half a mile at about 42 miles per hour. The bicyclist
was able to free himself, but the driver of the SUV continued driving
with the bike under his/her vehicle.
The driver then stopped at the Asan Park where he/she dislodged the bike
and continued to drive. Witnesses at the park were not able to give a
more detailed description of the driver or the vehicle.
GPD public affairs officer Allan Guzman urges the driver of the SUV to
turn himself or herself in. As of press time, no one has stepped forward
to claim responsibility for the incident.
