Obispos start season off with 10-0 win over Spartans

By Audreya J.P. Taitano
For Variety

THE Bishop Baumgartner Obispos girls soccer team started their playing season off on the right foot Tuesday afternoon at the University of Guam soccer field with a 10-0 win over the Santa Barbara Spartans. Seventh-grader Isabella Shimizu led the team with 3 goals with sixth-grader Stephanie Bordallo following right behind with 2 goals.
The leading scores by Shimizu and Bordallo were supplemented with goals by Mariana Kidd, Brianna Benito, Rebecca Rupley, Demi-Rae Shimizu, and Victoria Tulensru. Victoria and Demi-Rae also alternated as goalies with Samantha Nauta.
While the 23 girls on the team still have a ways to go to complete the season, Coach James Shimizu believes this first game showed what the team is capable of. “The girls at Bishop have won both basketball and volleyball, so this is a pretty good start for the soccer season,” said Coach Shimizu.
Bishop’s next game will be today against St. Paul’s at St. Paul’s soccer field at 4:30pm.
