A Japanese company
donated on Friday two waste collection vehicles for Melekeok and Airai
State.
President Remengesau said that the vehicles were obtained from Matsushima
Town and Yoshimasa Kato, President of East Japan Purashisu, Co. Ltd.,
headed handing over the trucks to the states.
"Palau has had a special relationship with Japan for many, many years.
We see the closeness of this relationship in the personal connections
that are made when Japanese people come to visit or to work in Palau and
when Palauans go to Japan.
The president said Palau spends significant money on waste pickup and
disposal.
"These trucks give us a good head start on meeting the development
needs of Airai and Melekeok. Years from now, when many of us are enjoying
out retirement, these trucks will still be doing their jobs helping to
keep their island clean and attractive and each time we see them, we will
reminded of the kindness of the people of Matsushima Town," the president
said.
The president said that both governors appreciate the contribution made
by Matsushima Town.
He said as part of the environmental protection, proper disposal of waste
is very important for the country.
