Keeping tennis court spick and span

By Bernadette H. Carreon
Horizon news staff

Volunteers and members of the Palau Tennis Federation gathered on Sunday, Jan. 28 as early as 8 a.m. to clean up the tennis courts at the Airai Elementary School.
Brought by a desire to keep the tennis courts clean and safe, volunteers cleaned the court the whole day amidst the heavy downpour.
Over 10 individuals transformed the tennis courts into an almost brand new court.
Elliot Udui, federation treasurer said that cleaning up of the court usually takes two days but because of the number of volunteers this year, both courts were cleaned up before 6 p.m.
Udui said that the Airai tennis courts is the only public court in Palau and it has to be taken cared of to prevent it from deteriorating.
The clean- up was a gathering of Palauans and Filipinos who united to keep the court free from slips.
The federation which composes of not only Palauan members but Filipino members as well is again encouraging more people to join the organization which is also planning a tournament this year.
The federation now boasts of a membership of close to 30 individuals.
Membership is now open with an annual fee of $36 and interested individuals who want to join the federation can also pay a semi-annual fee of $29 or a monthly fee of $10.
Daily use of the court will be $1 for those who do not want to pay the membership fee.
Interested individuals can contact Sisior at 4885468 or Elliot Udui, federation treasurer at 4885963.
