DABO Vistal drilled nine triples to power Tropical Storm to a 112-90 win over NIC in the Masters Basketball League last Wednesday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
Vistal finished with 35 points, as he and Richard Brostrom anchored Tropical Storm’s offense to give their team its fourth win in the 45-and-up division of the annual caging.
Brostrom fired 32 points and teamed up with Vistal and Bicera in helping Tropical Storm regain control of the game in the second half.
Tropical Storm was down at halftime, 39-41, when it outscored NIC, 39-21, in the third period to grab the lead, 77-62, entering the fourth quarter.
In the third canto, Vistal nailed three triples and had 13 points. Brostrom made the biggest contribution in that period with 14 markers, while Bicera fired 10.
Vistal continued to wax hot from downtown in the fourth quarter, as he scored Tropical Storms first nine points, all from beyond the arc.
Vistal’s hot shooting and the support of his teammates prevented NIC from recovering their bearings in the fourth quarter.
Bicera, who had only two points, added six more in the final quarter, while Brostrom chipped in seven, as Tropical Storm continued to run a well-oiled offense.
Two other Tropical Storm players scored in double figures with player-coach Tony Sablan adding 14 and Nomer Gamboa contributing 12.
In the second game, LBT Appraisal notched its fifth win after pounding Proa, 102-75.
LBT also had five players scoring in double figures with Alex Ocampo leading the way with 30 points.
Noel Delos Santos added 20, George Villasan had 16 and Benjie Abadilla and Lilio Tiples contributed 14 and 11, respectively.
Proa ran out of gas in the fourth quarter after keeping LBT within striking distance in the first three periods.
LBT led by only three at the end of the first quarter, 20-17, and with Ocampo and Delos Santos hitting their marks in the second quarter increased the lead to nine at halftime, 44-35.
But LBT failed to pull away at the start of the second half, as Dave Demapan and Poland Yamada kept Proa afloat and cut the lead to three, 61-64, entering the payoff canto.
LBT stepped on the gas pedal in the fourth period and Proa didn’t have much of an answer to the former’s scoring spree. LBT outgunned Proa in the fourth quarter, 38-14, with Abadilla drilling 12 of his total points in that period.
Demapan led Proa’s losing cause with 27 points.
