LOCAL swimmers will have a busy weekend, as the Saipan Swim Club holds two events starting today.
Today and tomorrow, SSC swimmers will be participating in the 2nd Annual Heptathlon at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool in Marpi.
According to SSC coach Michael Stewart, each participant will swim a total of seven events for two days. They will receive points based on how they finish the event.
The points after two days will be totaled to determine the top swimmer in each age group.
Stewart added that one team from Guam will be joining the heptathlon.
“This year, we are offering this meet as a virtual meet and we have one team from Guam participating. They will swim there and send me the results,” Stewart said in an email to the Variety.
Last year, Rezne Wong topped the boys’16-and-under age group collecting 570 points, followed by Juan Camacho (535) and Kensuke Kimura (470).
Andrew Kimball ruled the boys’ 8-and-under division with 195, while Dominique Austin dominated the girls’ 11 to 12 age group with 235 points.
After the heptathlon, SSC will be holding the Meek and Mighty Lagoon Swim at the Pacific Islands Club this Sunday.
The registration starts at 7 p.m., while races begin at 8:00 a.m.
Participants in the meek division will swim 1000m, while the mighty swimmers will cover a distance of 5000m.
SSC will have a new division in “tweener,” which is a 3000m-race.
“Last year, we had 14 swimmers who tried the Meek and 17 challenged the Mighty. I hope to double those numbers this year with the addition of the Tweener distance,” Stewart said.
The entrance fee is $10 per swimmer.
